In times of distress, using Mindfulness and Contemplation can lessen the pain.

I felt my guilt kick in today as I had spoken my word.
I'd learnt from early in life that to do so was bad.
The consequences were often too large;
Pain, ostracism, alienation, gloom.

I'd learnt to not value me.
My thoughts, my views.
Not valuing them though, kept me in my head.
A paradox.
Constantly assessing what was going on.
What to say, what not to say,
Generally, what not to say.

I've learnt now to observe the process when it happens.
Not to fight it, control it, deny it.
It's been around too long.

Instead, notice it, observe it, be aware.
Importantly take time out.
Even a minute or two.
Stop, breathe, focus on now.
Don't ride the monster's back.
It just leads to more of what is familiar.

In the pause, the time out, the silence.
Connect with now.
Just Be.
Do it as often as need be.
It could be many times a day.

There is so much to be gained and learnt from the silence.
Let it cover you, envelope you.
Let the calm and mystical know how in.
Simply Be.
