We Are More Than Our Thoughts

Meister Eckhart says it so well when he states that the circle of being is only complete when we are fully present.

How difficult it can be though to be fully present in today's very busy, hustle and bustle world.

Even at Christmas time, a time supposedly of winding down, getting into the spirit of giving and enjoying life.

Here in Australia, Christmas corresponds to the beginning of summer. Living by the ocean means you get to see a lot of boats and families laden on their holiday journeys with an abundance of toys to keep everyone happy. And yet everyone seems so busy. Even getting fuel for the car seems to be a chore for many. An inconvenience in their day. Something that is going to chew into valuable 'happy' time.

At holiday time, for example, so many of our thoughts can be based in the future. Like with planning a holiday and then making sure everyday is filled with activities to bring joy.

There's a lot of pressure to make things go right. After all, the summer break comes only once a year so it's got to be right if not perfect!

This can take us out of the present moment. We can stay in thinking and planning mode, only getting glimpses of occasional joy. That trip to the beach with the boat which was bought on credit, along with the planning that went into finally getting the boat into the water with everyone on board, can give us joy, but boy that joy can seem disproportionately out of kilter with how much energy went into attaining it!

The point to make here is that we've all experienced it. Trying to make everything right for everyone. The very process in doing this does not help us maximise our ability to ensure that everything we see, hear, touch, feel, taste, speak, think and imagine is helping us complete that perfect circle so that we can get back to the start, ready to do it again.

Staying stuck in planning, too much thinking, too much feeding of the ego gets us stuck in a part of the circle that prevents the ability for us to complete the perfect the circle. It's broken and leads to stress and anger and fear. Does that seem familiar? If it does, as Meister Eckhart says, take some time to really notice EVERYTHING - not just the thinking and planning.

We believe in service to humanity is an integral part of what it mean to be human. Serving with humility and grace. We offer support for people in need. We also offer international support for the disabled. We rely solely on private funding to achieve our work. Please feel free to explore this web site to find out more.

An important part of maximising our day to ensure we are of service, is to be aware that we we are maximising our time in the present moment, which means not focusing on the future or the past. To help us achieve this we use the techniques of Mindfulness and Contemplation. Many of the posts and information on this web site relate to being more present in the "now" through Mindfulness and other Meditative techniques. To further this we offer training in Mindfulness and also the recognised therapeutical tool of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.

Thank you.
